Tijdschrift voor Rechtsgeschiedenis / Revue d'histoire du droit / The Legal History Review has named a Prize in honour of Robert Feenstra, who was editor of the Tijdschrift during 63 years, from 1950 until shortly before his death in 2013.
The Robert Feenstra Prize is awarded every two years to the author of an excellent article on Western legal history, published in the period of three years preceding the award. Factors considered are quality of research, quality of style and expression, subject and novelty. The article will be expected to deal with an aspect of Western legal history, which includes law in Mediterranean countries since ancient times, and law of the European (colonial) expansion overseas.
The prize consists of a medallion with the effigy of Robert Feenstra designed by the artist Da van Daalen and an amount of money made available by Brill. The prize winning articles are available in free access.
