New technologies such as the ebook present a generational challenge to those such as the author who prefer the printed book. His memoir The Trees Are All Young on Garrison Hill was published in 2005 in a limited print edition. When the edition had sold out and there were signs of continuing demand, he obtained help from a friend with the necessary skills to record an audiobook version. This friend also arranged the production of an ebook version, whose accessibility convinced the author that ebooks are a means of generating new readers who may in due course embrace the superior pleasures of the printed book.
