Este ensayo examina el estado actual de la investigación sobre las múltiples relaciones entre la conversión y la persecución partiendo de dos recopilaciones misionológicas recientes de ensayos, Freedom of Belief and Christian Mission (2015) y Sorrow and blood: Christian mission in contexts of suffering, persecution and martyrdom (2012). Las categorías sistemáticas provienen de examinar la conversión como un derecho humano en el marco de la libertad de religión o de creencias, con la guía del Relator Especial de las Naciones Unidas sobre la libertad de religión o de creencias. El ensayo incluye una reflexión misionológica sobre el derecho a convertirse, a no a ser obligado a convertirse, a intentar convertir a otros por medio de la persuasión no coercitiva y descubre una falta de reflexión sobre los derechos de los niños y de sus padres al respecto.
