Ming Qing Yanjiu, founded in 1992, is a peer reviewed journal dedicated primarily to advanced studies of pre-modern China. This journal provides a forum for scholars from a variety of fields related to late imperial and early republican period that aim to have a cross-disciplinary discourse. Contributions in sociology, literature, psychology, anthropology, history, geography, linguistics, semiotics, political science, and philosophy, as well as book reviews, are welcome.

Donatella Guida is Full Professor of Chinese History, Department of Asian, African and the Mediterranean studies, University of Naples "L’Orientale", Italy, where she completed her PhD in East Asian Studies in 1997. Her research focusses on the analysis of the social and intellectual history of the Yuan, Ming and Qing periods, with a special attention to imperial strategies of legitimation and worldmaking. Using a philological lens on both historiographical and literary texts, she has extensively worked on the descriptions of Southeast Asia during the Ming and Qing, producing several articles and two monographs on the topic. Together with Michele Bernardini, she has written a book on the Mongol Empire. She is also the author of the first annotated translation of the 19th century novel Jinghua yuan into a European language (40 chapters), for which she was awarded by a specific translation prize by the Italian ministry of Culture in 2018. Currently, she is the Principal Investigator of the Italian national research project “Environmental Anomalies and Political Legitimacy in Global Eurasia, 12th-14th centuries”. Since 2014, she is Editor of the journal Ming Qing yanjiu.
