Abstract

This article examines in detail the decision of the House of Lords in the Pinochet case (handed down 24 March 1999) and seeks to discuss the relevance of the decision in international law and international relations perspectives. The case is a focal point for discussing the current importance of two themes at the international level. Firstly, the relationship between the concepts of state sovereignty and human rights. Secondly, the nexus between international law and international relations theory.
