Abstract

An interesting manuscript, unsigned and undated, containing two incomplete texts, has been found in the Palermo Astronomical Observatory Library. The handwriting has been recognized as belonging to Jesse Ramsden, the famous London instrument maker and the texts deals with some little-known improvements made by him around 1787-88 on the adjustments of astronomical quadrants and transit instruments. The provenance of the manuscript is unclear, owing to the absence of any related documentary evidence.
