Abstract

This paper is a critical examination of post-July 2021 Tunisia. It delves into four defining issues: first, the significant impact of President Kais Saied’s unexpected decision to suspend parliament and dismiss government on July 25, 2021; second, the various reactions to Saied’s move; third, the failed promises of Saied’s populist project in the face of an unprecedented political, economic, and social crisis; and fourth, drawing on resource mobilization theory, the paper will explain how the government’s policies have caused unprecedented social unrest, thereby sparking significant anti-government protests.
