Abstract

A notarial deed drawn up at Louvain on 29 November 1563 specifies a number of details concerning the printing of Thomas Harding's An answere to maister Iuelles chalenge. It appears that the printer Joannes Bogardus must have finished printing 750 copies of the book by 3 February 1564, whereas the author has committed himself to correct the proofs and to provide the printer with fifty-six reams of paper. At the end of each week the author will pay the printer an advance as the work proceeds, the rate of which has been fixed at 41 stivers for three formes.
