Abstract

Fifty years after it was first published, Beauvoir’s treatise The Coming of Age provides an analysis of aging that is still significant today in its original criticisms of aging. This article shows how Beauvoir’s interdisciplinary analysis helps us to understand contemporary ageism differently, notably in its explanations of how ageism is exacerbated by classism and sexism.
