Abstract
This essay elevates the philosophical importance of Beauvoir’s A Very Easy Death by showing that it makes significant contributions to her views on freedom, the relationship of self and other, and morality. Specifically, her memoir offers both a concrete demonstration of how one person’s freedom depends upon that of another and an argument that the process of dying undercuts the capacity for people to be free together.

Cet article souligne l’importance philosophique d’Une mort très douce de Beauvoir en montrant qu’il apporte une contribution significative à ses conceptions de la liberté, de la relation entre soi et les autres et de la moralité. Plus précisément, ses mémoires offrent à la fois une démonstration concrète de la façon dont la liberté d’une personne dépend de celle d’une autre et un argument suivant lequel le processus de la mort compromet la capacité des gens à être libres ensemble.
