The three species of Nearctic Haliplidae related to Haliplus mimeticus Matheson, 1912 are re-examined. Two species, H. rugosus Roberts, 1913 and H. eremicus Wells, 1989 are considered junior synonyms of H. mimeticus as characters used to distinguish the species proved to be variable and unreliable. A new species H. kenneri is described from Baja California, Mexico. The new species differs from H. mimeticus in the shape of the penis and the strongly serrate elytral apical margin.
