Abstract

Optimized Parenting in Families? Advice Media and their Use by Parents

Advice media are omnipresent and offer parents a variety of practical suggestions on a wide range of educational issues, both on the book and magazine market and on the Internet. Advice media can be considered optimization media par excellence. This article uses an exploratory qualitative interview study to identify the reasons why parents use advice media and to show the modes of optimization that may play a role in this process.
