Wenn es um Ethikberatung in der Klinik geht, sind Klinikseelsorger oft die ersten Ansprechpartner. Sie werden in vielen Kliniken darum gebeten, an klinischen Ethik-Komitees als Mitglieder teilzunehmen, diese zu moderieren und zu leiten, oder auch überhaupt erst einzurichten. Dies, sowie die Frage, welche Rolle Klinikseelsorger in der klinischen Ethikberatung übernehmen, hängt mit verschiedenen Vorannahmen und institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen der Seelsorge zusammen. Mit den Herausforderungen im Klinikalltag, die zu einer Institutionalisierung der Ethikberatung geführt haben, ist ein Wandlungsprozess der Klinikseelsorge verbunden, der zu einem Professionalisierungsschub führt. Dieser sollte wissenschaftlich fundiert vor sich gehen und notwendig eine Ethik in der Klinikseelsorge enthalten.
When ethics consultation in hospitals is required, Health Care Chaplains are very often the first to be contacted. In many hospitals they are asked to act as members of Hospital Ethics Committees (HEC), to chair the HEC or even to set one up in the first place. How they handle this and what role they can play in clinical ethics consultation depends on a number of assumptions about Pastoral Care and its institutional framework. Those challenges in the day-to-day clinical routine which have lead to an institutionalisation of ethics consultation have also triggered changes in the function and scope of Health Care Chaplaincy. The result is a professionalization of Health Care Chaplaincy which should go along with academic research and the development of an Ethics of Health Care Chaplaincy.
