Originating in the project The Transformation of the Roman World, Brill's Series on the Early Middle Ages publishes high-quality scholarly studies on the on the chronological period ranging from from Late Antiquity (third century onwards) through the Early Middle Ages (up until the eleventh century).

The scope of the series is broad, inclusive and global: we encourage submissions on societies, economies and cultures from different regions and disciplines: archaeology, art and architectural history, history, literature, gender and cultural studies, numismatics, paleography or religious studies. The outcomes of interdisciplinary research and cross-field collaborative projects are particularly welcome, as the series is keen to foster cross-cultural, comparative, and global studies. The series is particularly open to innovative proposals on new or hitherto neglected research venues.

The series publishes monographs, multi-authored edited thematic collections, and occasionally translations and scholarly editions. The preferred language is English though the editorial board will consider works in French and German.

Authors are cordially invited to submit proposals and/or full manuscripts to either the series editor, Professor Bonnie Effros or the Publisher at Brill, Dr Kate Hammond.
