‘All history is world history’ – but the history of architecture and urbanism is not. It has been written from numerous biased perspectives: the history of the former colonies from that of Europe, the history of twentieth century architecture from that of modernism, the history of Central and Eastern Europe from that of the ‘West’ – and we could expand this list indefinitely. Supporting a historical approach with a historiographical angle, Brill Studies in Architectural and Urban History welcomes books that respect and restore the global dimension of architecture and urbanism, critically re-evaluate existing bodies of knowledge, and are the result of thorough research that are largely based on primary sources. The series has no geographical or temporal limitations – we’re happy to accommodate books on renaissance Italy as well as studies on South-African shanty towns, the main focus of the series being its international and critical approach.
The peer reviewed series accommodates English language scholarly monographs, collections of essays, conference proceedings, and works of reference.
The prestigious MDP series, started in 1899, has published excavation reports of various sites of ancient Iran as well as studies on the archaeological material excavated there. The present continuation of this series will pursue these same aims on an international level.

Founded in 1947 the The Netherlands Yearbook for History of Art/Nederlands Kunsthistorisch Jaarboek (NKJ) is a peer-reviewed annual, which has established an international reputation for publishing outstanding articles that reflect the variety and diversity of approaches to the study of Netherlandish art and culture. The NKJ aims to foster traditional art historical scholarship and to open up the field to innovative cross disciplinary developments. The NKJ is listed in the Arts & Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science).
Each volume is dedicated to a particular theme. Past volumes have included monographic studies on Rogier van der Weyden and Rubens, and broader cultural and historical studies such as Picturing the Exotic, Body and Embodiment, Art and Science and Art and Migration.
Contributions are by internationally renowned scholars, while at the same time, the NKJ offers a platform for young talent. Although articles are mostly in English, the NKJ aims to encourage international exchange: contributions in Dutch, French or German are also published, accompanied by an English summary.
This peer reviewed book series focuses on scholarly publications (monographs, edited volumes, catalogues) on visual arts in the Netherlands up to 1900.
The Oud Holland Book Series is closely related to the journal Oud Holland, Journal for Art of the Low Countries, the oldest surviving art historical journal in the world. The book series is a platform for larger studies on topics relevant for the journal. Books are published in English.
