A Journal for the Study of Science, Technology and Medicine in the Pre-modern Period
2020 Impact Factor: 0,756
5 Year Impact Factor: 0,627

Early Science and Medicine (ESM) is a peer-reviewed international journal dedicated to the history of science, medicine and technology from Antiquity through to the end of the eighteenth century. The need to treat in a single journal all aspects of scientific, medical and technological activity and thought to the eighteenth century emerges from the comparably low degree of specialization and the high degree of disciplinary interdependence characterizing the period before the professionalization of these fields. We welcome articles prompted by current interests in the history of pre-modern science, medicine and technology that are characterised by an identification and discussion of a historical problem.

The journal has so far focused mainly on the Western, Byzantine and Arabic traditions. The journal is however also open to considering scientific, medical and technological traditions across the globe before 1800, and it is particularly interested in emphasizing elements of interconnectedness across geographical regions and time periods. It encourages the diachronic study of these traditions from a wide variety of viewpoints, including commented text editions or studies of historical figures, scientific questions or practices. Early Science and Medicine contains an extended book review section. It also welcomes special issues and feature sections dedicated to emerging historiographic fields and methods of research.

If you are thinking of submitting an article written in a language that is different from those chosen by previous contributors to this journal (English, French, German), please get in touch with the editors to discuss the best option for handling the process of review and publication.

Nuncius is a peer-reviewed, international journal devoted to the historical role of material and visual culture in science. Nuncius publishes 3 issues per year.
Nuncius explores the material sources of scientific endeavor, such as scientific instruments and collections, the specific settings of experimental practice, and the interactions between sciences and arts. The materiality of science is a fundamental source for the understanding of its history, and the visual representation of its concepts and objects is equally crucial. Founded in 1976, Nuncius was originally published as Annali dell'Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza.
Nuncius publishes original articles, unpublished primary sources (Documenta inedita), and occasionally special focus sections to emerging historiographic fields and new methods of research. A rich book and review article section covers the main contributions to the field.
The main language of the journal is English, although submissions in other languages can also be considered. Nuncius is published under the auspices of the Museo Galileo in Florence (www.museogalileo.it).

Journal of Philosophy, Theology and Science in Islamic Societies
Oriens is dedicated to extending our knowledge of intellectual history and developments in the rationalist disciplines in Islamic civilization, with a special emphasis on philosophy, theology, and science. These disciplines had a profoundly rich and lasting life in Islamic civilization and often interacted in complex ways--from the period of their introduction to Islamic civilization in the translation movement that began in the eighth century, through the early and classical periods of development, to the post-classical age, when they shaped even such disciplines as legal theory and poetics. The journal's range extends from the early and classical to the early modern periods (ca. 700-1900 CE) and it engages all regions and languages of Islamic civilization. In the tradition of Hellmut Ritter, who founded Oriens in 1948, the central focus of interest of the journal is on the medieval and early modern periods of the Near and Middle East. Within this framework, the opening up of the sources and the pursuit of philological and historical research based on original source material is the main concern of its editors and contributors. In addition to individual articles, Oriens welcomes proposals for thematic volumes within the series.
