Al-Bayān is a rigorously peer-reviewed academic journal on Qurʾān and Ḥadīth studies. It was founded in 2003 at the prestigious Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, the oldest and highest-ranking Malaysian institution of higher education, and continues to be edited and hosted there. Firmly rooted in Malaysia, the journal has a highly international editorial board.
Al-Bayān publishes articles in English, Arabic, and Malay on both historical and contemporary interpretations of the Qurʾān and Ḥadīth. Respecting diversity, the editors welcome contributions from all academic traditions and perspectives, be they Muslim or non-Muslim; from the Islamic world or the West; Classic or contemporary. The journal is published by Brill since 2011.

Aries is the first academic journal specifically devoted to the study of esotericism. The journal publishes scholarly work, both empirically and theoretically driven, on all aspects of esoteric currents from antiquity to the present day, unrestrained by geographical and cultural location, and from a range of approaches in the humanities and social sciences. Esotericism is understood pragmatically as an umbrella term that covers a variety of historical currents, including but not limited to Gnosticism, Hermetism, theurgy, the Islamic science of letters, the “occult sciences” (magic, alchemy, astrology), kabbalah, Paracelsianism, Rosicrucianism, theosophy, illuminism, spiritualism and occultism, tantra and yoga, psychical research, traditionalism, neopaganism, alternative spiritualities, conspirituality, popular occulture, etc. Aries is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal publishing articles and book reviews in English, French, German, and Italian.

A Journal of Contemporary Approaches
Biblical Interpretation publishes articles on various aspects of critical biblical scholarship as a part of the humanities or social sciences within a complex global context. The journal provides a medium for the development and exercise of a range of current interpretive trajectories, as well as deliberation and appraisal of methodological foci and resources. Alongside individual essays on various subjects submitted by authors, the journal welcomes proposals for special issues that focus on emergent interdisciplinary themes and analytical trends.
Over the past two decades, Biblical Interpretation has provided a professional forum for pushing the disciplinary boundaries of biblical studies: not only in terms of what biblical texts mean, but also what questions to ask of biblical texts, as well as what resources to use in reading biblical literature. Likewise, the journal conceives of "biblical literature" expansively to include ancient literature adjacent to or affiliated with the biblical canon. The journal has thus the distinction of serving as a site for theoretical reflection and methodological experimentation. For example, recent articles have explored queer temporalities, disabilities studies, masculinities studies, animal studies, and trauma theory to list a few examples of such theoretical and methodical boundary-pushing.

This wide-ranging and fascinating series supplements a growing catalogue of historical, sociological, and theological scholarship in the thriving and interdisciplinary field of Quaker Studies. Individual articles will speak to the broad spectrum of Quaker belief and practice, to the significance of the history of Quaker traditions, and to the many areas in which Quaker Studies contributes to other fields in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Work on Quakerism impacts both wider church history and theological debate, as well as current themes in the sociology of religion. The Quaker attitude to spiritual equality also engages women’s studies scholars, and the Quaker commitment to peace and social justice relates to wider issues of political theory and peace studies. As the field of Quaker Studies continues to grow and redefine itself, this series will make a significant contribution to making up-to-date scholarship accessible to specialists as well as to a broad academic community.

It is particularly focused upon religious education as variously conceived in different domestic, religious, educational, social and national contexts. Brill Research Perspectives in Religion and Education provides researchers with the opportunity to give an account of the most recent scholarship and to define and direct the agenda for future research. Written as single or co-authored monographs with an accompanying bibliography, each specially commissioned issue contains a 50 to 100-page article on a given theme, offering a critical and up-to-date summary of research, commentary and analysis. Brill Research Perspectives in Religion and Politics has two main goals. Firstly, it aims to provide a platform for the burgeoning scholarship on religion and politics that cannot find visibility within the constricted boundaries of either religious studies or political science. Secondly, it seeks to examine topics that are intensely debated in the public space from an objective, data-driven perspective. In doing so, it will offer alternatives to ideological or partisan positions particularly within hotly debated topics such as violence and politics, human rights, or democracy and secularism. In order to achieve these goals, the series will give priority to research that addresses contemporary debates on religion and politics in a particular national or regional context or in a comparative way across religions or political contexts.

Brill Research Perspectives in Religion and Psychology presents extended articles focused on theory and the integration of empirical data that bridge the gap between humanities studies and those of psychological science. Firm boundaries associated with disciplines concerned with religion and psychology are difficult to define and rapidly developing research strategies are in need of critical in-depth presentation that explores how various approaches to psychology are contributing to a broader understanding of religion in what some have claimed is a secular and others a post-secular age.
This series will be directed to a wide audience of students, scholars, and active researchers seeking up-to-date information on the diversity of approaches and methods that psychologists are applying to illuminate the wide range of phenomenon that either define or are associated with religion in individual cultures and globally. Published quarterly, each peer-reviewed issue will consist of one uniquely focused article of approximately 40,000 words. Ecclesiology is an international, ecumenical and fully peer-reviewed theological journal. It is designed to meet the growing demand for theological resources in the area of ecclesiology – the scholarly study of the nature and the purpose of the Christian Church. The journal also features articles exploring wider issues in ecclesiology including those to do with the identity of the Christian Church and the place of ecclesiology within Christian theology. The main focus of the journal is on the mission, ministry and unity of the Church.
Ecclesiology is published in association with the Department of Theology and Centre for the Study of the Christian Church, The University of Exeter, and with the Ecclesiological Investigations Network. It is published three times per year: in January, May and September.
