Nahj al-Balāghah, the celebrated compendium of orations, letters, and sayings of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (d. 40/661) compiled by al-Sharīf al-Raḍī (d. 406/1016), is a masterpiece of Arabic literature and Islamic wisdom studied and memorized avidly and continually for over a thousand years. Showcasing ʿAlī’s life and travails in his own words, it also transcribes his profound reflections on piety and virtue, and on just and compassionate governance. Tahera Qutbuddin’s meticulously researched critical edition based on the earliest 5th/11th-century manuscripts, with a lucid, annotated facing-page translation, brings to the modern reader the power and beauty of this influential text, and confirms the aptness of Raḍī’s title, “The Way of Eloquence.”

هذا الكتاب عبارة عن تحقيق علمي لـ«تفسير سورة الفتح» للمفسّر محمّد أبي السرور البكريّ الصدّيقيّ، العلّامة الصوفيّ المصريّ البارز في القرن السادس عشر للميلاد. يشمل هذا الكتاب أيضًا السيرة الذاتيّة للمفسّر وأسرته، آل البكريّ الصدّيقيّ. يعتمد هذا الكتاب على مخطوطةٍ تُوجد النُّسخة الأَصليّة لها في المكتبة السُّلَيْمانيّة في إسطنبول. يمثّل هذا التفسير مدرسةً في الفكر الإسلاميّ لم يُكتَب عنها كثيرًا والتي اهتمّ بها في ذلك العصر العُلماء بتأييد سلاطين الخلافة العثمانيّة. يقدّم الكتاب النصّ العربيّ الأصليّ للمخطوطة مع تحقيق وتعليق، إضافةً إلى ملخّص باللغة الإنجليزيّة.


This is a scholarly edition of Muḥammad Abū al-Surūr al-Bakrī al-Ṣiddīqī’s Exegesis of Sūrat al-Fatḥ. Al-Ṣiddīqī was a prominent Sufi scholar in Ottoman Egypt in the 16th century. The edition includes a biography and family history of its author. The book is based on a unique manuscript found in the Süleymaniye Library in Istanbul and represents a lesser-explored philosophical school of thought within Islam, which enjoyed the patronage and endorsement of the Ottoman caliphate of the time. It presents the original Arabic text and a commentary in Arabic, as well as an English introduction.

تُعدّ الأسدية منطلقا لمدونة سحنون في الفقه المالكي. وينسب فهرس مكتبة رقادة بالقيروان ثلاث قطع مخطوطة إلى الأسدية. فحصنا هذه القطع من ناحية المنهج فشككنا في صحّة تلك النسبة. ثم حققناها، فتبين أنها لم تكن الأسدية. فهي تمثّل سماعا أخذه أسد بن الفرات عن محمد بن الحسن الشيباني، وتهمّ الفقه الحنفي.
هذه القطع هي فريدة من نوعها، وهي تتجاوز في أهمّيتها الأسدية ذاتها. ولتحقيق تلك القطع، اعتمدنا على مختصر لها ألّفه الحاكم الشهيد في كتاب الكافي في الفقه، وقد شرح السّرخسي هذا المختصر في المبسوط، كما قارنّا هذه القطع أيضا بمدوّنة سحنون.

The Asadiyya is considered to be the foundation of Saḥnūn's Mudawwana, one of the most important works of the Malikī school of jurisprudence. The catalog of the Raqqada Library in Kairouan attributes three manuscript fragments to the Asadiyya. This work examines these fragments from a methodological point of view, since the validity of that attribution is questionable. From the edition by Nejmeddine Hentati, it becomes clear that they do not belong to the Asadiyya. These are rather witnesses of the scholarly transmissions of Asad b. al-Furāt from Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan al-Shaybānī, and they contain Ḥanafī jurisprudence.
These fragments are unique, and their importance stretches beyond the Asadiyya. For the edition, Hentati relied on al-Ḥākim al-Shahīd's compendium in al-Kāfī fī l-fiqh, as well as on al-Sarakhsī al-Mabsūṭ, which is a commentary on this compendium. Hentati also compared these fragments to Saḥnūn's Mudawwana.

The lost world of the Eastern European Jews meets the lost world of life under the Soviet rule. From the Galician shtetl of Mościska (Mostyska)—now in Ukraine near the Polish border—the story follows a Jewish family through two World Wars, deportation to a labor camp under the Soviet regime, through Central Asia, the Middle East, to America. These are the lost worlds the author vividly brings to life. Holding onto Jewish tradition in the darkest of places, surviving mass, grave human rights violations. 80% of Polish Jews, who survived the Second World War, did so through the Soviet Union. Meier Landau and his family escaped Germans, but were deported by the Soviets from Lviv, along with thousands of other Jewish families. This is their story—prisoners in a world so strange, it is almost unbelievable to them. This text is a testament to the power of remembering—a necessary reading when war and refugees are present again where this real-life story unfolds.

In der späten Kaiserzeit dominierte eine Zwischenform von Panegyrik und Geschichtsschreibung, deren Zeugnisse mit diesem Band für das vierte und frühe fünfte Jahrhundert vorgestellt werden. Dabei geht es vor allem um die Reste von Darstellungen der Regierung Konstantins und Julians (Praxagoras, Bemarchios, Eustochios, Iulianus Imperator, Biblidion, Kyllenios, Oreibasios, Kallistion, Magnos von Karrhai, Eutychianos, Philagrios, Seleukos von Emesa). Mitberücksichtigt werden auch einige Sonderfälle, insbesondere der erste Teil des Anonymus Valesianus, der eng mit der panegyrischen Zeitgeschichtsschreibung der Epoche Konstantins verbunden ist, sowie einige Epen, die in ihrer detaillierten historiographischen Struktur mit der panegyrischen Zeitgeschichte eng verwandt sind.
