“Constitution” is a rich term in Western political culture, encompassing political and juridical doctrine as well as government practices through the ages. This volume examines “constitutional moments” in history, those occasions or episodes when significant steps were taken in the definition or redefinition of polities. Their actors were writers or politicians, rulers or ruled, who found inspiration in a distant past or instead looked towards a future to be drawn anew. This book sheds light on such moments from Ancient Greece to the present day, mostly in Europe but also in the Ottoman world and the Americas, thereby uncovering a revealing variety of constitutional thinking and action throughout history.

Iran and the Caucasus Monographs is a double-anonymous peer-reviewed book series that covers recent findings in Irano-Indian, Caucasian, Near-Eastern, Armenian, and Turkic studies. The focus will be on linguistics and philology, history, archaeology, anthropology, history of religions, art history, as well as ethnopolitical and security issues concerning the said regions. The Series includes short monographs presenting original research, revised high-quality theses, commissioned edited volumes, festschrifts, opera minora of prominent scholars, and scholarly translations with commentaries and appropriate apparatus. The Historical-Critical Dictionary of Marxism (HCDM) is a comprehensive Marxist lexicon, which in the 9 German-language volumes concluded so far has involved over 800 scholars from around the globe. Conceived by philosopher Wolfgang Fritz Haug in 1983, the first volume of the ongoing lexicon project was published in 1994. This first English-language selection introduces readers to the HCDM’s wide range of terms: besides Marxist concepts, approached from a plural standpoint and stressing feminist, ecological, and internationalist perspectives, it boasts entries on the histories of social movements, theoretical schools, as well as cultural, political, philosophical, and aesthetic debates.

Connected by their focus on the (hand)colouring of the examined maps, the authors demonstrate the potential of the study of colour to enhance our understanding of the material nature and production of maps and the historical, social, geographical and political context in which they were made.
