While the social history of Europe and North America has been the subject of many scholarly publications, the social history of Asia, Africa, and Latin America has been more neglected. Furthermore, these societies are often studied in isolation from the global context. The series Studies in the Social History of the Global South offers a platform for the social history of these three continents with the specific intention of redressing the balance in terms of the perceived dominance of studies on the global north. This series welcomes publications of case studies at the local, regional and continental level. Studies in Social History of the Global South, as a sub-series of Studies in Global Social History, shares the aims and scope of the main series.

Authors are cordially invited to submit proposals or full manuscripts to the series editors Touraj Atabaki, Rossana Barragán, and Stefano Bellucci, or to the publisher at Brill, Wendel Scholma.
The Pirate's Way
Author: Arne Zuidhoek
The romantic picture of pirates as colourful individuals terrorizing the “seven seas” has long eclipsed historical fact. The Pirate Encyclopedia contains the most complete body of data available on the rovers’ rightful legitimacy as subjects of investigation. For the first time we see so many pirates (c. 7.000) brought together. This pirate’s who’s who, including the women pirates, makes it possible to see different areas and their significance and circumstances, and so the essential companion for scholars, students and a general audience intrigued by tales and facts.
This Liber Amicorum was presented to Dr. Peter van der Krogt on 24 June 2022 on the occasion of his retirement as Jansonius curator of the collection of maps & atlases at Allard Pierson at the University of Amsterdam. A large number of colleagues from home and abroad have written a personal and/or scientific contribution, in which they express their appreciation for Peter, or reminisce or discuss a topic from the core area of Peter's own research field: atlases and globes. In this way the rich, forty-year-long career of Peter is highlighted in various ways.

This book also contains a biography and a complete list of publications of Peter.

The Land Between Two Seas: Art on the Move in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea 1300-1700 focuses on the strong riverine ties that connect the seas of the Mediterranean system (from the Western Mediterranean through the Sea of Marmara, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov) and their hinterland. Addressing the mediating role of the Balkans between East and West all the way to Poland and Lithuania, as well as this region’s contribution to the larger Mediterranean artistic and cultural melting pot, this innovative volume explores ideas, artworks and stories that moved through these territories linking the cultures of Central Asia with those of western Europe.
