Die inter- und transdisziplinäre Studienreihe Beyond Historicism – New Testament Studies Today baut auf den philologischen Prinzipen auf, die der Übersetzung des Frankfurter Neuen Testaments von Stefan Alkier und Thomas Paulsen zu Grunde liegen. Der philologisch-kritische Respekt vor der jeweiligen Ausdruckskraft der Zeichenproduktion anderer ist nicht nur die wissenschaftliche, sondern auch die ethische Grundlage der Studienreihe Beyond Historicism. Sie publiziert kritische philologische, exegetische und historische Monographien und Sammelbände, die in unmittelbarer oder auch mittelbarer Weise neutestamentliche Texte in ihren jeweiligen enzyklopädischen Kontexten erhellen. Die Verpflichtung zur gründlichen kritischen Philologie als Grundlage der Datenanalyse und der historischen Hypothesenbildung will jeglichen Historizismus hinter sich lassen. Manuskripte können in deutscher, englischer, französischer und italienischer Sprache eingereicht werden. Sie durchlaufen ein peer-review-Verfahren innerhalb des Herausgeberkreises und seines wissenschaftlichen Beirats.

The series Documenta Coranica is dedicated to the study of history of the Qurʾānic text as manifested in manuscripts and other sources. Documenta Coranica publishes witnesses of the Qurʾān from the early period in the shape of facsimile, accompanied by transcription and a commentary. The series makes codices on parchment, papyri, inscriptions, variant readings and other relevant sources for the history of the Qurʾān, accessible to the academic public. The first volumes contain manuscript fragments from Sanaa (DAM 01-25.1, DAM 01-27.1, DAM 01-29.1), the manuscript Ma VI 165 (Tübingen), and the codex Or. 2165 of the British Library.

In Western ecumenical research, the perception of Orthodox theology still suffers from the stereotype of representing a solidified traditionalism. In contrast, Orthodox theology is dominated by the clichéd notion of Western Christianity as modernism contrary to tradition. This overlooks the many interesting and novel research approaches. On the one hand, these are developed at orthodox institutions worldwide in response to modern scientific questions, and on the other hand they reveal the continuity of the Christian heritage in change in Protestant and Catholic drafts. The series aims to provide a forum for these research approaches and thus enrich the ecumenical discussion with contributions that have been written from a culturally and religiously different background. The series focuses on monographs, but is also open to inter- and transdisciplinary scholarly anthologies. It accepts contributions in German, English and French. All manuscripts are peer-reviewed.
"Das Frankfurter Neue Testament (FNT) ist die erste deutsche Übersetzung der Bibel, die sich konsequent am Griechischen des 1. Jahrhunderts orientiert, ohne Rücksicht auf kirchlich-konfessionelle Hörgewohnheiten zu nehmen. Das FNT vereint philologische Präzision mit theologischer Fachkompetenz. Möglichst nah am Original erschließt diese Übersetzung neue Sichtweisen auf scheinbar Vertrautes und führt so zu einem faszinierenden Leseerlebnis.

Mit der Globalisierung entstehen zunehmend komplexe Abhängigkeiten auch auf der kulturellen Ebene. Identitäten und Weltanschauungen verändern sich daher mit einer zunehmenden Dynamik, die nur mit Blick sowohl auf die lokale Tradition als auch die interkulturell-globale Dimension verstanden werden kann. Dies gilt insbesondere für Religionen und religiöse Phänomene. Die Reihe Global Religion | Religion global stellt sich dieser für die Moderne typischen reflexiven Verschränkung, indem sie durch eine kulturanalytische Perspektive geprägt ist, die Religionen, religiöse Phänomene und Weltanschauungen der heutigen Zeit in ihrer komplexen Verwobenheit reflektiert. Theologisch fundiert ist sie dadurch, dass (religiöse) Überzeugungen auch von innen heraus betrachtet und verstanden werden. Inhaltlich werden in der Reihe Studien und Sammelbände aufgenommen, die lokale Situationen in ihrer religiös-weltanschaulichen Prägung oder überregionale/globale religiöse Phänomene mit Bezug zur heutigen Situation bearbeiten. Damit soll ein Mosaik entstehen, das anhand einzelner Untersuchungen tiefgründig die heutige Welt in ihren aktuellen weltanschaulich-religiösen Dynamiken erfasst.

It is theologically grounded in that (religious) convictions are also viewed and understood from within. In terms of content, the series includes studies and anthologies that deal with local situations in their religious-ideological character or supra-regional/global religious phenomena with reference to today’s situation. In this way, a mosaic is to be created which, on the basis of individual studies, profoundly grasps today’s world in its current ideological-religious dynamics.

This study of the pioneer mission to the Zulu people differs from others in South African mission studies by offering a more nuanced understanding of the relationship between mission and church during the formatives stages in the making of an African Christian community, both in America and in British Natal. Critical scholars continue to view the Western mission enterprise as an adjunct if not a tool of colonialism or at best a clash of cultures between white mission powerbrokers and powerless black Christian acolytes. The author argues that they were partners from the beginning, and in this endeavor the Christian identities of the missionaries as well as the Zulu were changed forever.

Das »Kirchenmusikalische Jahrbuch« wurde 1886 im Umkreis der katholischen kirchenmusikalischen Bewegung des Cäcilianismus gegründet, seit 1909 finanziell gefördert durch die Görres-Gesellschaft und von 1930 bis 1982 herausgegeben vom Allgemeinen Cäcilienverband.
Ursprünglich der Erforschung der Geschichte der Kirchenmusik verpflichtet, sind die wissenschaftlichen Beiträge in neuerer Zeit weiter gespannt und behandeln auch die geistliche Musik allgemein, die evangelische Kirchenmusik, die christliche Hymnologie, die Orgelmusik und -kunde. Das »Kirchenmusikalische Jahrbuch« ist das einzige deutschsprachige Periodikum seiner Art. Ergänzt wird es seit 1994 monographisch durch die im Verlag Ferdinand Schöningh erscheinenden »Beiträge zur Geschichte der Kirchenmusik«.
