Al-Anwār al-Qudsiyya fī Bayān Ādāb al-ʿUbūdiyya is an edition of the Arabic text of an early work of the sixteenth century Egyptian Sufi ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Shaʿrānī (d. 973 H/1565 CE). The text can be considered as an introduction to many of the central themes of his large corpus on subjects like legal theory, the relationship between law and Sufism, the master-shaykh relationship, and ethics. It shows us the development of al-Shaʿrānī's ideas in his early careeer, before building on them in later works.
The editor has discovered another manuscript that provides a more correct reading of the text, resolving a number of problems in the previously published versions. Using this new manuscript as the base text along with other existing witnesses, this critical edition provides the first comprehensive and complete version of this important text.

The Middle East, Africa and Asia
Modern Intellectual Trends is a peer reviewed book series that includes monographs, edited volumes, critical editions (for text from the pre-print age) in the original languages and scripts, and annotated translations on intellectual history from the 18th century to the present. The coverage includes philosophy, theology, hermeneutics, mysticism, views and debates on science and the so-called occult sciences, political thought, gender, legal theory, nahḍa studies, postcolonial studies, and adjacent areas, i.e. in intellectual history in the broadest sense. The series welcomes transregional and transcultural contributions.
The series will be open for publications on modern thought from the global south, with a special focus on the Middle East (Arab world, Turkey, Iran), but also the Balkans, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, as well as the Muslim diaspora. Submissions in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and other non-Western languages, will also be considered, in addition to English, French, and German.

Bahrain has roots deep in the past, going back some 5,000 years. It was a vital link between civilisations, such as the Phoenicians, the Levant and Mesopotamia. The 'modern' era of Bahrain began in 1783, following the island's conquest by Ahmed al-Fateh. It has been ruled by the al-Khalifa family since 1961. Bahrain was declared independent from the United Kingdom in August 1971, and issued its first constitution in 1973.

Reviews from specialist periodicals in the field, and some relevant reviews from selected other titles are listed by title of work under review.
Classification
The well-known Index Islamicus classification scheme, uniquely and carefully geared to the field of Islamic Studies, allows one to quickly find all literature headed under a particular, broader subject area (e.g., Education, Philosophy, Shi’ism, Sudan, Palestine, Israel, as well as their subcategories).
Extensive indexes
Those who prefer more specific queries, have in the print edition at their disposal two elaborate indexes, facilitating quick and effective searches: the subject index guides the user to material on specialised subjects not covered by the classification scheme (e.g. Al-Azhar, mawlids, railways), and also to items relevant to one subject but classified under another. The name index lists not only authors, but also editors, translators, reviewers and personal subjects. So researchers interested in, for instance, Ibn Khaldun or Muhammad Iqbal or the Ayatollah Khomeini can quickly find publications both by and about them. The online edition offers a full text and advanced search opportunities.
