German Monitor (founded in 1979) is a series for themed edited volumes on literature, culture and politics in the German-speaking world since 1945. Our approach is inclusive: some volumes focus on single authors, political figures or genres; other volumes explore themes such as narratives of trauma, German left-wing terrorism, local/global narratives, and the roles that Germany, Austria, and Switzerland play in Europe today.

We welcome proposals for interdisciplinary volumes as well as those with a specifically literary, cultural or political focus. Many of our contributors are based in German Studies, others in disciplines such as Comparative Literature, Film Studies, Musicology, History, Museum Studies, and Political Science.

The book series has a system of double peer-reviewing. We publish volumes in German or English.

Postmodern Studies deals with (any aspect of) postmodernism, or of postmodernity and the postmodern in relation to literature.

Publications in this series can be either of a theoretical or a more practical/analytic nature. They may refer to any one, or to several, literary works, genres, or literatures. They may also refer to the other arts, provided the main focus remain literary. In evaluating contributions, the editors of Postmodern Studies will follow no particular methodological or ideological bias.

All manuscripts accepted in the series first undergo a process of peer review.

Due to rapid developments in literary studies we close the series for new publications.
Amsterdam Studies on Cultural Identity
Imagology, the study of cross-national perceptions and images as expressed in literary discourse, has for many decades been one of the more challenging and promising branches of Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies.
Its focus lies in the attitudes, stereotypes and prejudices about our own and others' national characters; attitudes which govern our rhetoric, discursive representation, literary activity and - ultimately - international relations at large. To recognize "national characters" as textual (frequently literary) constructs necessitates a textual and historical analysis of their typology, their discursive expression and dissemination, by historians and literary scholars.
The series Studia Imagologica, which will accommodate scholarly monographs and collected volumes in English, French or German provides a forum for this literary-historical specialism.
Before their inclusion in Studia Imagologica volumes and monographs will be subjected to peer-review.

WMA aims to provide an international forum for musicologists, literary and cultural scholars with an interest in intermediality studies and in crossing cultural as well as disciplinary boundaries.
Word and Music Studies publishes theme-oriented volumes and monographs, documenting and critically assessing the scope, theory, methodology, and the disciplinary and institutional dimensions and prospects of the field on an international scale.

We publish high quality research on specific trends in single arts, countries and regions, as well as comparative and interdisciplinary studies in the interrelation between the different arts as well as between the arts, social and political contexts and cultural life in the broadest sense and all its diversity.

Critical Studies seeks to foster cross-disciplinarity and thus to participate in the ongoing reconfiguration of the Humanities and Social Sciences, while challenging received conceptual frames and perspectives, be they entrenched or 'current'.
To this aim, it publishes guest-edited, multi-authored collections of essays by scholars and intellectuals coming from various disciplinary and cultural backgrounds.
The series welcomes volumes dealing with a vast range of topics, from the most enduring to the most contemporary, such as future and emerging technologies.
Whether topics initially pertain to the fields of gender studies, media studies, postcolonial studies or studies in post-humanism, to name just a few, special consideration is given to collections that:
1. seriously attempt to produce innovative cross-disciplinary analyses by involving multiple theoretical languages and/or cultural areas;
2. do not content themselves with applying methodologies or theories but submit their own gestures and presuppositions to critical scrutiny;
3. endeavor to open new questions and to posit new objects for investigation on the basis of their methodological and theoretical innovation.

The series Nature, Culture and Literature is dedicated to publications approaching literature and other forms of text-based communication from an ecological standpoint. It provides a platform for the practice of ecocriticism in the broadest sense, understood as an issue-driven field of cultural enquiry comprising critical textual analysis and theorising on human/nature relations.

The series publishes single-author monographs and thematically focused collections of essays, on literature across languages, cultures and periods, and on other forms of writing. It is open to scholars working in green media studies, environmental history, philosophy, social and cultural theory, and linguistics, as well as national literatures and comparative literature.

Individual volumes focus on a specific area of research, these can include:
・Examining the work of a single author or the characteristics of the environmental imagination in a particular culture.
・Mapping one of the themes central to popular understandings of nature and explore their creative reconfiguration (e.g. nature and national/regional identity, human/ animal relations, or climate change).
・Developing and illustrating a particular theoretical approach (for instance in ecolinguistics, energy humanities, or econarratology / ecopoetics).

All volumes are peer reviewed.

Critical posthumanism can be understood as the discourse that deconstructively inhabits humanism and critiques its anthropocentrism. It works both genealogically – in historicising the contemporary figure of the posthuman – and speculatively – in imagining, analysing and evaluating scenarios of humanity’s perceived exceptionalism, challenges, or ends. It thus critically engages with unsettling anticipations of the future, provides timely critiques of the present and produces rewritings and alternative narratives with a postanthropocentric or nonhuman dimension. Critical posthumanism’s concerns typically embrace the impacts of bio- and digital technology; ecological crises; the development of artificial intelligence; more-than-human ethics; politics and justice and their interdisciplinary debate within the new or posthumanities.

Critical Posthumanisms is a series addressing all the above. It publishes cutting-edge monographs and edited collections focusing on the rise of posthumanism and its forms, perspectives and directions. It makes available studies by scholars whose perspectives on the posthuman, nonhuman or more-than-human vary in important and interesting ways, and should serve as a crucial point of reference for anybody working within the field.

Books within the series provide:
- inter- or multidisciplinary takes on posthumanism, the posthuman, nonhuman or more-than-human, particularly those allowing the new humanities or posthumanities to critically engage with areas like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, virtual reality, climate change, geo-engineering, etc.;
- analyses of the histories, genealogies, idioms, and canons of different posthumanisms and discussions of the main sources, thinkers and trends of posthumanism;
- alternative formulations of posthumanism, which problematise the centrality of technology;
- philosophical and political critiques of the prosthesisation, enhancement, transformation or transcendence of the human or nonhuman;
- investigations into the role and future of fictional and speculative discourses in literature, film, art, performance, media and science involving scenarios of posthumanisation (or becoming-other-than-human).
