The goal of the Dialogue Series is to expand the range of critical debate devoted to literary authors, works and forms. To that end, Dialogue publishes new and recent criticism on literary writing that has elicited or is eliciting critical debate. In addition, Dialogue devotes occasional volumes to neglected works deemed worthy of renewed critical attention.
The Dialogue Series is devoted primarily to literary works written in English (or translated into English) after 1900. Engaging a variety of modes within that range, it includes the novel/romance, short fiction, poetry, drama and literary non-fiction (such as literary biography) as well as occasional volumes on emergent genres such as the graphic novel.
Authors are cordially invited to submit proposals and/or full manuscripts to the publisher at BRILL, Masja Horn.

Using Kamel Daoud’s The Meursault Investigation and Juan Gabriel Vásquez’s The Secret History of Costaguana, this book asks you to serve as the jury on euro-modernism, specifically the canonical texts Camus’s The Stranger and Conrad’s Nostromo. A guiding principle of the journal is its openness to diverse disciplinary domains, theoretical perspectives, and discourse styles of scholars writing on Beckett. Bilingual since its inception, it aims to foster dialogue across languages, cultures, and disciplines. The journal welcomes submissions in English and French from all parts of the world provided they contribute a new understanding to the extensive literature on Beckett and meet the tests of readability and scholarship.

L’un des principes directeurs de cette revue est son ouverture à la diversité des champs d’étude, des perspectives théoriques et des approches stylistiques des chercheurs travaillant sur Beckett. Bilingue depuis sa fondation, la revue cherche à encourager le dialogue entre les langues, les cultures et les disciplines différentes. La revue accueille des propositions en anglais et en français provenant de tous les coins du monde, pourvu que celles-ci, en s’inscrivant dans la liste déjà longue des études sur Beckett, contribuent à apporter une compréhension nouvelle de cette œuvre, tout en répondant aux critères requis de lisibilité et de sérieux scientifique. Trauma Literature and the Joseph Story
This book reads the Joseph novella alongside contemporary trauma novels in order to analyze the loss of the assumptive world of the writer and readers of the Joseph novella. In turn, it re-thinks trauma theory in light of the “religious,” understood as the belief in and relationship to a God who orders the universe. Thus, this book argues that when we read the Joseph novella alongside contemporary trauma novels, we see a story written by people trying to reconstruct their assumptive world after the shattering of their old one, highlighting the significance of the religious dimension in trauma theory.

This book reads the Joseph novella alongside contemporary trauma novels in order to analyze the loss of the assumptive world of the writer and readers of the Joseph novella. This book makes the attempt to wed reason and the poetic. The tool for this attempt is Rational Poetic Experimentalism (RPE), which is introduced and explored in this book. According to RPE, it makes sense to look for poetic elements in human reality (including reason), outside of the realm of imaginative literature. Provocatively, RPE contends that philosophy’s search for truth has not been a great success so far. So, why not experiment with philosophical concepts and look for thought-provoking ideas by employing the principles of RPE, instead of fruitlessly searching for truths using conventional methods?

It is a trajectory pursued here with reference to the materialism of Marxism, via the mid-nineteenth century ideas about race, through the development decade, the ‘cultural turn’, debates about modes of production and their respective labour regimes, culminating in the role played by immigration before and after the Brexit referendum. Also examined is the trajectory followed by travel writing, and how many of its core assumptions overlap with those made in the social sciences and development studies. The object is to account for the way concepts informing these trajectories do or do not alter.

This book follows that provocation to examine the way in which central Marxist concepts and problems from primitive accumulation to real abstraction animate and inform philosophers from Theodor Adorno to Paolo Virno. While also examining the way in which reading Marx casts new light on such philosophers as Spinoza. At the centre of this transformation is the production of subjectivity, the manner in which relations of production produces ways of thinking and living.

The texts and artworks discussed in this book test a diverse range of ways of identifying as Jews and with the Jewish people, while engaging with postmodern and postcolonial discourses of hybridity and multiculturalism.
This book selects six key areas in which the boundaries of Jewish identities have been interrogated and renegotiated: nation, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and the Holocaust. In each of these areas Sicher explores how major and emerging contemporary writers and artists re-envision the meaning of their identities. Such re-envisioning may be literally visual or metaphorical in the search for expression of artistic self between the conventional paradigms of the past and new ways of thinking.
