Bukolisches Pathos in Spanien (1492-1559)
Die spanische Schäferliteratur ist zu Unrecht unter den Schlagworten der sentimentalen Süße und des niedrigen Stils zu den Akten gelegt worden. Bei Juan del Encina, Garcilaso de la Vega und Jorge de Montemayor wird nicht nur der zentrale Zusammenhang von Affekt, Subjektivität und Sprache virtuos verhandelt. Die Bukolik des Siglo de Oro macht auch den kulturellen und politischen Apparat des Habsburgerimperiums sichtbar und wird im Rahmen dieser Arbeit deshalb mit neueren Theorien aus der Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft, der Emotionsgeschichte oder Politikwissenschaft unter die Lupe genommen. Sie zeigt, wie mit dem Einbruch des Pathos ein wildes, nonkonformes und disruptives Begehren den Widerstreit frühmoderner Subjekte mit der Sphäre der politischen Macht entblößt.

The Iberian Religious World is a peer-reviewed series which publishes academic works that deal with the different types of religiosity found in the Iberian world. The space of the ‘Iberian world’ is one that changes according to time. If until the end of the fourteenth century it was limited to the space of the Iberian Peninsula, the beginning of the maritime discoveries in the fifteenth century gave it an almost world-size dimension, gradually lost from the eighteenth century onwards. The series encompasses works on Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and also African, Asian and American religions and cults met by, among others, Portuguese and Spaniards during their oversea enterprises. Furthermore, volumes in the series deal with forms of religiosity, cultural relationships with religious minorities, and acculturation processes within the space of the Iberian Peninsula from antiquity to our days. Through monographs, edited volumes, and critical editions of primary sources, the series addresses subjects such as history, theology, art history, literature, philology, music, and other academic fields, whenever the main focus of research is on religion.

In this book, Marileen La Haije offers a thorough and innovative analysis of the intersections between madness and trauma in recent Central American literature on (post)war. A central argument of her study is that these literary texts challenge the taboo of madness in Latin American contexts of memory, by showing that talking about madness does not necessarily lead to stigmatizing victims of political violence or disqualifying their stories about traumatic experiences. La Haije highlights the importance of including madness on the research agenda in the field of memory studies in Latin America.

Este libro busca contribuir al impulso del estudio del actual cine poético hispanoamericano e íbero-peninsular, analizando aquellos modos contra-narrativos que enfatizan las particularidades formales del medio audiovisual, a la vez que rebajan el desarrollo del contenido --desplazando la acción fuera de plano. El presente libro parte asimismo de la premisa que la modernidad cinematográfica constituye el marco de referencia teórico-artístico al que muchos directores de cine poético recurren para elaborar sus propuestas fílmicas. Por ello, se propone también analizar las estrategias de composición vinculadas a la tradición cinematográfica de la modernidad que han sido críticamente reexaminadas en las películas producidas en el ámbito hispanoamericano e íbero-peninsular durante las primeras dos décadas del siglo XXI.

By adopting a decidedly transnational perspective, the author investigates the distinctive elements of contemporary poetic cinematographic productions that shape present-day Hispanic art house cinematic productions. Thus, the book reassesses the notion of poetic cinema as an interstitial film practice. The author first examines the multiple meanings that the notion of poetry in cinema has historically had. Second, she explores how Hispanic cinema inherited the artistic principles of European cinematic modernity, blending them with the Latin American cinematographic tradition of neorealist influence.

La via del conocimiento de la filosofía natural contrarreformista estuvo condicionada por la necesidad de conciliar el método escolástico con el experimental, a la luz de la evidencia de los nuevos descubrimientos científicos y geográficos. La cosmovisión oficial hizo uso de metodologías del saber, basadas en discursos como el antisupersticioso, en el que se apuntaba a la confluencia de métodos experimentales, religiosos y jurídicos, orientados hacia una interpretación más precisa de la realidad. En La ciencia de Cervantes. se confirma cómo en pasajes que describen exorcismos, interacciones entre animales y seres humanos y exploraciones geográficas de obras cervantinas, como Don Quijote., Persiles y Sigismunda. y las Novelas ejemplares., la confluencia de visiones artísticas y científicas de la época se pone de manifiesto. Llama la atención, especialmente, el caso del Coloquio de los perros., en donde se evidencia un intento de conciliar el conocimiento humanista, escolástico, antisupersticioso y barroco, en línea con otras excepcionales obras neoplatónicas similares, como son tanto el Somnium. de Maldonado como el de Kepler.

Official world-view was supported by approaches to knowledge such as the anti-superstitious discourse, which were sustained by the confluence of experimental, religious and legal methodologies, in support of a more accurate interpretation of reality. La ciencia de Cervantes. shows how selected cervantine texts, including the Quixote., Persiles and Sigismunda., and the Exemplary Novels., reflect how the confluence of artistic and scientific views of the period was evidenced in the depiction, among others, of exorcisms, animal-human interactions and geographical explorations. Resumen breve de la vida de la beata Juana de Jesús (1662-1703) es una edición comentada de la hagiografía de Juana de Jesús escrita por su confesor, Antonio Fernández Sierra durante la primera década del siglo XVIII. Este manuscrito, abandonado durante mucho tiempo en los archivos de Quito, fue muy popular entre los intelectuales del siglo XVIII e incluso sirvió de base para otras dos hagiografías, ambas escritas aproximadamente cincuenta años después. Este estudio de una de las primeras hagiografías escritas en la periferia del imperio español en América del Sur, revela la compleja relación entre los discursos religiosos y protonacionalistas que tuvieron lugar en el Quito colonial.

Este manuscrito, abandonado durante mucho tiempo en los archivos de Quito, fue muy popular entre los intelectuales del siglo XVIII e incluso sirvió de base para otras dos hagiografías, ambas escritas aproximadamente cincuenta años después. Este estudio de una de las primeras hagiografías escritas en la periferia del imperio español en América del Sur, revela la compleja relación entre los discursos religiosos y protonacionalistas que tuvieron lugar en el Quito colonial.

Resumen breve de la vida de la beata Juana de Jesús (1662-1703) is an annotated edition of the hagiography of Juana de Jesús written by her confessor, Antonio Fernández Sierra, during the first decade of the eighteenth century. Long abandoned in the archives in Quito, this manuscript was well known to eighteenth century intellectuals and served as the basis for two other hagiographies, both written approximately fifty years later. One of the first hagiographies from the periphery of the Spanish empire in South America, this volume allows the contemporary reader to trace the complex interweaving of religious and proto-nationalist discourses that emerged in colonial Quito.
