Cover illustration: ‘Ripple’ by Boyan Montero. The image suggests the vague and diluted roles and positions that people – including sociologists – were obliged to hold in societies under a totalitarian regime. The two stones resemble human faces or masks. Their orientation towards the curved, rainbow-like line could be interpreted as a striving for knowledge, amidst all this blurriness. The title of the picture, Ripple, may remind us of the consecutive, and somewhat repetitive, waves of state policy towards sociology under the Communist regimes and their efforts to study and understand this society.
