The conference held at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in November 2015 Relations and Networks in Indian Ocean Writing was an exciting forum of debate, as we were able to discuss our work with other colleagues in Indian Ocean studies. The two panels on South African Indian writers were extremely stimulating. We are sorry that some of the participants were unable to contribute their revised papers to this volume.
