This edited volume is based on the activities of a priority research programme (in German: SPP, or Schwerpunktprogramm) that was generously funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). From 2011 to 2018, the SPP 1448 “Adaptation and Creativity in Africa – Significations and Technologies in the Production of Order and Disorder” was co-ordinated by the universities of Halle and Leipzig, Germany.
