Guide to Transliteration of Written Tibetan

This table shows the conversion between the ʼUcen characters of Written Tibetan, the symbols used in this grammar and the corresponding dictionary and the Wylie transcription of the same ʼUcen characters, wherever the symbols employed here differ from the standard Wylie transcription. The choice to use these symbols, based on the International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (IAST, Congrès International des Orientalistes 1894) and the National Library at Kolkata Romanisation (Aggarwal 1985 (1978)), rather than the Wylie transcription is purely a matter of choice and convenience. Syllables of Written Tibetan words are separated by a hyphen [-].
