Acknowledgements

Many thanks are due to Trinity College, which provided me with the funds to organize the conference on which this book is based. It was very much a Trinity occasion. The conference was to celebrate of the 700th anniversary of the establishment of the King’s Scholars. The King’s Scholars went on to become a college, King’s Hall, and Henry VIII would merge King’s Hall and another college, Michaelhouse, to form Trinity. I am also grateful to the two anonymous publisher’s referees, whose valuable suggestions I have followed, and to the editorial board of Brill’s ‘Education and Society in the Middle Ages and Renaissance’ for accepting this volume into its series.
