This volume contains the papers presented in two consecutive meetings of the Réseau International de recherche Plutarque (RED), which took place under the title “Plutarch and the Ancient Religious Landscape” at the Universities of Groningen (27–29 September 2017) and Bern (28–30 June 2018), respectively. The idea of the réseau is to foster research and dialogue on Plutarch, especially between 13 Southern and Western European universities, involving more advanced scholars as well as PhD-students and Post-Docs.
We would like to thank the Interfaculty Research Cooperation (IFC) “Religious Conflicts and Coping Strategies” at the University of Bern, the Faculty of Religious Studies of the University of Groningen, and the Ubbo Emmius Fonds of the University of Groningen for their generous financial support.
The editors of the series and the staff at Brill offered their magnificent support all along the way. A special thanks is due to Peter Lötscher, who assisted in the editing process, along with a group of (student) assistants in Groningen as well as in Bern (Forrest Kentwell, Gianluca Derungs, Christina Harker, Travis R. Niles, David Staub, Julia Freidig, Andrea Zysset), and to Barbara Hirsch for the index locorum.
