This is the second of an envisaged seven volumes of Jewish Babylonian Aramaic magic bowls from the Schøyen Collection. It contains texts JBA 65 to JBA 119. Various factors delayed the appearance of the present volume, but it is hoped that subsequent volumes will appear in a more expeditious manner.
As with the first volume, we are grateful to Dr Naama Vilozny for providing illustrations and descriptions of the images contained in the bowls. We are grateful to Professor Matthew Morgenstern for his generous advice on various linguistic problems in the texts and for permission to use his photographs, both in this volume and on the Virtual Magic Bowl Archive (VMBA). The VMBA is in the process of being updated and upgraded; hopefully, there will be a full update on this in the next volume. We are also grateful to Siam Bhayro’s erstwhile student, Dr Anne Burberry, for producing the Glossary and Lists, as well as checking the editions. Finally, we would like to thank our publisher and typesetter for their patience and expertise, particularly Erika Mandarino, Katelyn Chin, and, more recently, Emma de Looij and Bart Nijsten.
It was with great sadness and a profound sense of loss that, as this volume was being typeset, we learned of the passing of our friend, colleague and mentor, Professor Shaul Shaked.
