Our thanks go first of all to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, whose generous support of this project began in 2016, with a renewal of funding after three years (Project number: 273594864). It goes without saying that this book would otherwise not exist. We are also very grateful to the huge number of colleagues who worked on the project and guided it towards its completion. We were very fortunate in getting input from a stellar group of scholars as our advisory board: Khaled El-Rouayheb, Heidrun Eichner, Frank Griffel, Judith Pfeiffer, Reza Pourjavady, Mohammed Rustom, Gregor Schwarb, Ayman Shihadeh, Tony Street, and Robert Wisnovsky. Researchers on this and other books in the series have been numerous: they contributed everything from identifying manuscripts and occasionally helping to improve the translations to preparing original texts for online publication. They included Hanif Amin Beidokhti, Alexander Kalbarczyk, Nora Kalbarczyk, Dustin Klinger, Michael Lessman, Salimeh Maghsoudlou, Abdurrahman Mihirig, Michael Noble, and Sarah Virgi. Andreas Lammer, who was first a postdoctoral researcher in the group and then joined the advisory board, was involved in the original conception of the project. Less formally involved were researchers who gave advice and moral support to the undertaking: Davlat Dadikhuda, Rotraud Hansberger, Dag N. Hasse, Damien Janos, Jens Ole Schmitt, Francesco Zamboni, and Behnam Zolghadr. Damien Janos must receive special thanks for his comments on the completed manuscript: he also gave us help with bibliographical references, as did Muhammad Fariduddin Attar, Hanif Amin Beidokhti, Merve Boz, and Hussein Ibrahim. Finally, Anna-Sophie Lange helped with preparing the manuscript of this volume for print and produced the index locorum, and Zack Candy assisted with correction of the final proofs and made a number of important last-minute improvements. This has, then, truly been a team effort and we are immensely thankful for the fruitful collaboration with all who have been mentioned.
