This book is the fruit of a multilateral collaboration. First, we would like to thank the Faculty of Education at Beijing Normal University for their support in preparing this book. Second, we would like to thank the book series editors Zhu Xudong, Michael Peters, and Tina Besley for their trust and support. We are very honored to edit this book as the first in the Beijing Normal University International Series. Also, we would like to thank all the authors for their contributions to this study of Dewey’s visit to China. To some extent, this internationally collaborative book project historically echoes Dewey’s dialogue with his Chinese friends a hundred years ago. By deliberate efforts like this one, we hope to establish an organic connection and continuity with that historical episode. Thanks also go to Brill for allowing us to reprint selected articles as well as to the publisher, John Bennett, for his professional and timely guidance. We would like to thank John Wiley and Sons Company for permission to reprint Roger Ames’s chapter “Confucianism and Deweyan Pragmatism: A Dialogue”. Finally, we would like to thank Carrie Wilson for her help proofreading and editing.
