Juan Luna y Novicio fue un importante pintor filipino miembro del grupo de los ilustrados. También fue un maltratador y feminicida que mató por celos a su esposa, María de la Paz Pardo de Tavera, y a su suegra, Doña Juliana Gorricho. Su destacada obra no debe ocultar este doble crimen.
