Maria Damilakou
is Assistant Professor at the Ionian University in “the History of the American Continent.” Since 2003, she teaches History of Latin America at the Hellenic Open University. She has participated in a significant number of research projects on immigration and labour in South American countries. Since 2001 she collaborates with the Archive of Oral History and Women’s photographs (Archivo de Palabras e Imagenes de Mujeres) based in the School of Philosophy of the University of Buenos Aires. Gelina Harlaftis
is Professor of Maritime History at the University of Crete and since 2017, Director of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation of Research and Technology, and head of its Centre of Maritime History. She graduated from the University of Athens and has completed her studies at the universities of Cambridge (μ.Phil.) and Oxford (D.Phil.). She has been President of the International Maritime History Αssociation (2004–2008) and visiting professor at various universities in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada. She has co-ordinated a large number of research projects among which the project “Onassis Business History”. She has published 31 books in Greek and international publishing houses and more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals and books. Her last book is Creating Global Shipping: Aristotle Onassis, the Vagliano Brothers and the Business of Shipping, c.1820–1970 (Cambridge University Press, 2019).
Alexandra Papadopoulou
is a historian and post-doctoral researcher at the Institute for Mediterrannean Studies of the Foundation of Research and Technology in Crete. She graduated from the Department of History of the Ionian University where she completed her Ph.D. thesis on the shipping of the island of Spetses in the 19th century. She has taught at the Ionian University and she obtained a post-doctoral scholarship at the University of Βocconi. She has participated and coordinated a large number of research projects. She was a member of the coordinating team for the project “Onassis Business History” during 2017–2021 and continues to 2022–2024. She has authored a significant number of articles and chapters in books. Her first book is Greek Maritime History. From the Periphery to the Centre (Brill, 2022), co-edited with Katerina Galani.
Amalia Pappa
is an archivist, Deputy General Manager and Manager of Archival Research, Promotion, Communication and Conservation of the archives of the General State Archives (GAK). She graduated from the Law School of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki with post-graduate studies at the University of Sorbonne (Paris I). She has published more than 40 publications of archival interest and has edited various special publications and exhibition catalogues of archival material. She is a member of the Committee of Ethics of the Archives of Modern Social History, of the Scientific Committee of the Cavafy Archive of the Onassis Foundation, scientific leader of the archival documentation of the Cavafy Archive and scientific advisor of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies-FORTH for the archival documentation of the Onassis Archive. She was elected President of the Greek Archival Association (1999–2003, 2011–2015) and is member of the Society of American Archivists.
Lars Scholl
is a maritime historian and Professor Emeritus at the University of Hamburg. He was Manager of the German Maritime Museum. He is one of the founding members of the International Maritime Economic History Association (IMEHA), founded in 1986, and from 1995 to 2012, member and President of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Maritime History. During 2012–2016, he was President of the International Association of Maritime Economic History. He has authored a large number of articles, book chapters and books.
Christos Tsakas
is historian, Jean Monnet Fellow at the Centre of Advanced Studies “Robert Schuman” of the European University Institute and Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Milan. He completed his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Crete and has worked at the Free University of Berlin, the European University Institute, Princeton University, Danish Institute in Athens and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation of Research and Technology. In 2019–2020, he was CES Visiting Scholar at the Centre of European Studies of the University of Harvard. He has written several articles and book chapters, and one book: Post-War Greco-German Relations, 1953–1981: Economic Development, Business Interests and European Integration (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) which has been published also in Greek,
