  • Cover illustration: ‘A “Modern” Conciliarist’s Council’, by Aimee Boucher Manneh, 2023. Used with permission. This image of an ecumenical council contains elements that point to Jacques Almain’s political theology. Papal regalia are absent, signifying Almain’s belief that a council can be held, in a case of necessity, without a pope’s approval or presence. And, significantly, William of Ockham and John Duns Scotus are present (to the left and right, respectively, of the central cardinal), signifying their strong influence on Almain’s “modern” thought.
