Abbreviations

Throughout the volume, we favor Hellenized spellings of names of people and places, employing Latinized versions only for the most familiar names, where confusion would be created by using a Hellenized name. The spelling of place names on maps reflects the preference of authors who have referred to those locations.

All ancient dates cited in the volume are BCE unless otherwise indicated.
