Acknowledgements
I am ever indebted to the many children, teachers and families over the past 40 years who have granted me treasured glimpses into their lives through my seeing eye/I. I hope this book goes some way to ‘paying forward’ the many generosities you have extended to me.
To the contributors of each chapter in this book – each with a passion for seeing childhoods through their research efforts – I extend heartfelt thanks. The work these authors did in peer reviewing chapters, meeting in Melbourne in June 2019 to progress this work, and responding with good cheer to my many editorial requests, has made this book a joy to bring together. I have a feeling that the relationships that have developed out of this international collaboration are just beginning.
I am deeply thankful to colleagues from the Association for Visual Pedagogies, for the many lively discussions concerning the potential of visualities to shape educational thought and practice. I am also grateful to John Bennett and the Brill | Sense team for their positive and supportive work behind-the-scenes and in sharing our vision for visual pedagogies and its publishing potential. Thanks, too, to Courtney White for her careful edits of early chapter drafts; and to Adam and the team at Splash Editing – who helped me bring this book home under adverse circumstances.
