A Note to the Reader
In accordance with MGR house-style ancient place names, the names and works of ancient authors, and ancient personalities have been transliterated using their Hellenic, rather than Latinate, forms. My thanks to John Fossey, the current series editor, for his guidance on this. In order to help the reader navigate this unusual presentation, the indices at the end of the volume include both versions of the names.
