Leiden – 29 August 2024
Brill, the international academic publisher, and Japan’s National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU) are pleased to announce that they have signed an agreement to cooperate on an Open Access book series to be entitled NIHU Studies in the Humanities. The new series will showcase monographs and edited volumes resulting from research projects conducted by Japanese and international scholars affiliated with one of NIHU’s six institutes. In order to ensure that volumes in the series reach the widest possible audience, including in developing countries, NIHU will sponsor their publication in Open Access.
“As most of NIHU’s articles and books are published in Japanese, the new series intends to reach out to English readers worldwide, who may hitherto be unfamiliar with NIHU’s research”, says Nobuko Kibe, President of NIHU. “In Brill, a leading publisher in the humanities since the 17th century, NIHU has found an ideal publishing partner.”
“Brill is honored that NIHU has chosen it as its publishing partner”, says Maurits van den Boogert, Chief Publishing Officer at Brill. “NIHU is one of Asia’s premier research organizations, so research results published in the series will present cutting-edge scholarship which will doubtless make a significant contribution to the study of the humanities worldwide.”
“Following our existing highly successful cooperation with the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics, we are delighted to extend the cooperation to all six NIHU institutes, as well as to NIHU’s Center for Innovative Research”, adds Uri Tadmor, Publishing Director at Brill. Should you have any questions regarding the cooperation agreement or the new series, please contact Uri Tadmor.
