Brill, the international academic publisher, and Peking University Press (PUP) are pleased to announce that they have signed an agreement to cooperate on a large collection of Chinese classical texts and commentaries.
As PUP’s exclusive global distributor, Brill will host the Chinese language text collection Ru Zang 儒藏, as Digital Library of Chinese Classics: Texts and Commentaries of Confucianism, on its Scholarly Editions platform for the international academic community. This is an extensive collection comprising 660 texts and approximately 200 million characters in classical Chinese, organized into four categories: Confucian Classics, History, Philosophy, and Literature. Equipped with Brill’s specialized dictionaries, as well as its advanced research and referencing tools, it provides scholars with a comprehensive digital library for the study of Chinese humanities, philosophy, religion, history, and literature.
“Ru Zang 儒藏is the largest publishing project that systematically organizes Confucian classics in China and abroad since 1949. ” Mr. Ma Jianjun, President of Peking University press says, “Thanks to the rich academic resources at Peking University, this project received support and contributions from nearly 500 scholars at around 100 universities and institutions. Peking University Press is pleased to collaborate with Brill, the world-renowned academic humanities publisher, to present this significant collection of Confucian classics to the international academic community.”
“Brill is delighted to work with PUP as its exclusive publishing partner for this important project”, says Maurits van den Boogert, Managing Director of Brill. “The ambitious scale of this project, in combination with its high academic standards, is a perfect fit with our own publishing programs. We hope this marks the start of a long-lasting partnership. ”
