Forthcoming Series: Cultural Histories of the Avant-Garde: A Companion Series
Series editor: Tania Ørum, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Cultural Histories of the Avant-Garde: A Companion Series provides a comprehensive overview and in-depth analysis of the cultural manifestations of the avant-garde from 1900-2020. The avant-garde perspective central to these companions will emphasise the collaboration and exchange between individual arts and separate national traditions. As a result, we’ll shed light on central aspects of global cultural history.
This companion series is a continuation and expansion of A Cultural History of the Avant-Garde in the Nordic Countries.

Praise for Cultural Histories of the Avant-Garde
"With The Cultural History of the Avant-Garde in the Nordic Countries 1900-1925, the Nordic Network for Avant-garde studies has presented a generally impressive first volume of a cultural history of the avant-garde in Northern Europe on which continuation we will wait with excitement. We really wish for both the network and the publisher that they will have the necessary long breath to bring cultural history of northern European avant-garde to its end." - Stephan Michael Schröder (Köln), Nordeuropaforum (2014), pp. 42-46. Full text available.
Yes, we did have the necessary long breath. Breath in, and breath out. By the end of 2021 we will see all 4 volumes of the Cultural History of the Avant-Garde in the Nordic Countries published! We are very proud of this achievement by the Nordic Network and its editors. Due to the popularity and success of this reference work that decenters the avant-garde we will build further on this stunning example to create a global picture in Cultural Histories of the Avant-Garde: A Companion Series.
