This article evaluates the eaeu through lenses of four salient regional integration theories: neofunctionalism, liberal intergovernmentalism, social constructivism and neorealism, in four corresponding dimensions of integration: economic, politico-institutional, cultural and geostrategic. It concludes that the eaeu is not a useful undertaking for Russia in any of the listed dimensions. The bloc’s economic consequences for the smaller states will be harmful.
