Abstract
This chapter presents and contextualizes the ichthyological information given in a French manuscript travelogue written by a certain François de Meyer, of whom almost nothing is known. This travelogue, which relates the author’s voyage from La Rochelle (France) to Guadeloupe in 1695, is ichthyologically interesting, because it contains many coloured drawings and descriptions of the marine animals the author encountered on the way during his journey. His drawings and descriptions testify of a remarkable attitude of autoptical observation.
