Dahood's proposal, Psalms I (Garden City, 1966) pp. 55 f., that �� rek � in Mic. v 13 is to be related to a Ugaritic word gyr "to protect" whence he derives a noun "protector" = "god". Dahood's further suggestion that �� r � m in Jer. ii 28, xix 15 is a pun "cities/gods" is also unnecessary. There is no need to discuss here whether one can derive a noun meaning "god" from a verb meaning "to protect". MILKOM, LE
