Abstract
The chapter presents the case study of an intercollegiate student poster conference as an educational event which facilitates building the academic community and achieving learning outcomes related to the integration of the conference with specific academic subjects.
The inquiry of the three groups of conference participants, namely students, academic teachers and practitioners, involved the analysis of a focal phenomenon from these three different perspectives.
The study analysed the experience of participating in a student poster conference and outlined its advantages and disadvantages. Every group of participants appreciates the opportunity the event offers to build relationships and the way it fosters building the academic community.
The findings indicate that, despite initial concerns, the students positively evaluated their participation in the poster conference. They were well aware that thanks to the event, their engagement in the course integrated with the conference was enhanced. Moreover, they could see a considerable increase of acquired knowledge and competence. The academic teachers and practitioners, in turn, could see the obvious advantages but also the disadvantages of a poster conference as a teaching method.
