Abstract

Precision and Contingency. An Area of Tension in the Assignment of Scientific Concepts

Given the fact that the scientific discourse on education is based on educational- scientific concepts, it is surprising that the methodology of the assignment of these concepts is hardly addressed and reflected. This article raises a tension of the requirements of concepts in educational science between precision, accuracy and exactness on the one hand; and contingency, openness, and dynamics on the other hand. In this article we reject attempts to resolve the tension to only one side, which would mean to give preference to either precision or contingency and neglect the other side. In contrast we sketch a model for the assignment of educational-scientific concepts that unites both sides of the tension: If precision is understood as a requirement for the concept as a product, and the consideration of contingency is understood as a requirement for the process of the assignment, it is possible to assign concepts that both are precise and consider their contingency.

Vierteljahrsschrift für wissenschaftliche Pädagogik

Im Auftrag der Görres-Gesellschaft

Founded in 1925, the "Vierteljahrsschrift für wissenschaftliche Pädagogik" has been well established for decades as a highly respected forum for debates on educational topics. With its distinct focus on the humanities and cultural studies, the journal sees itself as a medium of communicative dialogue, which is able to highlight its distinctive features in comparison with other sciences and to communicate these based on a theoretical and practice-oriented perspective.
In these attempts to clarify and gain understanding from a theoretical perspective, the major focus is on the way the educational process progresses, on those social, cultural, political and unconsciously effective factors and phenomena that are involved as well as on the participants (in their various different contexts). Against the background of anthropological, educational and theoretical as well as methodological perspectives, performative actions and their staging at the intersection of individual, institution, and society are considered, in order to advance, on the one hand, the understanding of pedagogical heterogeneities, and on the other hand, to develop further educational science knowledge.
Clarifications of empirical diversity that are ideologically critical and profoundly founded on theory are aimed to help to understand and differentiate pedagogical contexts in their complexity.

Abstract

According to Erich Zenger, Psalm 82 has been considered as one of the most “spectacular” texts of the Old Testament. This psalm not only declares the death of other gods (אלהים) but also defines commitment towards the poor as a criterion for being true god. Within the debate of different methodological approaches to biblical texts, the present article first discusses some selected historical-critical questions of Psalm 82. It then asks the questions, Who are the poor in this Psalm? and Is it accidental that Psalm 82 speaks of the one אלהים in opposition to the other אלהים ? These questions will be answered by offering a canonical exegesis of this Psalm within the corpus of the Psalms of Asaph.

„A little Drama“ (G. M. Tucker)

Zur literarischen Form von Am 7,10–17

Alessandro Casagrande

Abstract

The use of a narrative imperfect in Am 7:10–17 after 7:1–9 and the abrupt shift to 8:1–3 frequently compelled critics to determine its literary form. For diachronic studies defining classifications include ‘third-party report’ and ‘apophthegma’. By contrast, synchronic studies emphasize the contextual integration of Am 7:10–17 and concentrate on a narrative analysis. Within this focus it is striking, that the passage is often associated with a ‘drama’ but without assessing the methodological ramifications of such a claim. The present article takes this ‘synchronic gap’ up and relates it to approaches to view drama as a possible genre for prophetic books. In doing so, a reading of Am 7:10–17 as part of a narrator-mediated discourse using a dramatic mode shows that the passage can be deemed an entrance with three speeches integrated into the wider context of 7:1–8:3. Particularly the classification of 7:10a, 12aα, 14aα as narrator’s discourse using a dramatic mode makes this claim plausible.

This paper presents in a nutshell the outcomes of a long term research project on the relationship between Catholic Church and modern science studied through the documentation kept in the historical archives of the Roman Congregations of the Inquisition and of the Index of forbidden books. A summary description of the structure and contents of the first volume of the edition (to appear in several tomes), which reproduces the sixteenth century documents, such as, Inquisition and Index decrees, censurae, letters, pronouncements by consultors, and reading permits. Special attention is paid to the criteria for the selection of documents and methodology of the research.

The two volumes of the Prosopographie von Römischer Inquisition und Indexkongregation 1814-1817, compiled by Dr. Herman H. Schwedt in collaboration with Tobias Lagatz and published under the academic guidance of Professor Hubert Wolf, may be characterized as an outstanding contribution to the history of the Roman Curia and the papacy in the nineteenth century. The impressing prosopography opens an important stage as well as new ways towards a historic comprehensibility. This essay attempts to illuminate some observations concerning historiography, methodology or the historical situation of the opus and the contribution of the prosopography of the Index's consultors to a consolidation of the cultural and intellectual history of the Roman Curia in the nineteenth century; moreover, a general chronological and geographic comparison is presented.

Der historische Muhammad in der islamischen Theologie

Zur Kriterienfrage in der Leben-Muhammad-Forschung

Series:

Zishan Ahmad Ghaffar
