This paper, as a conlcusion to this special issue, presents the future work that is being carried out at NTU Singapore in collaboration with Microsoft Research and Microsoft Azure for Research. For our research team the real frontier research in world histories starts when we want to use computers to structure historical information, model historical narratives, simulate theoretical large scale hypotheses, and incent world historians to use virtual assistants and/or engage them in teamwork using social media and/or seduce them with immersive spaces to provide new learning and sharing environments, in which new things can emerge and happen: “You do not know which will be the next idea. Just repeating the same things is not enough” (Carlo Rubbia, 1984 Nobel Price in Physics, at Nanyang Technological University on January 19, 2016).
Studies in the History of Collecting & Art Markets is a peer-reviewed book series dedicated to original scholarship on the social, cultural, and economic mechanisms underlying the circulation of art. Over the last two decades interest in the formation, display, and dissolution of art collections increased tremendously; art markets, trade routes, and dealer networks became a rich field of interdisciplinary inquiry. Scholarship brought forth a lot of information about the flamboyant personalities to which the possession of art was a lifestyle; for the “social life of things”, i.e. the provenances of individual artworks, many research gaps could be closed. This shift in scholarly interest from the production side to the consumption side of the art world is also reflected in the emergence of specialized post-graduate courses offered by a number of institutions internationally, as well as an ever-increasing stream of exhibitions, conferences, and publications devoted to the subject. Brill’s book series accommodates scholarly monographs, collections of essays, conference proceedings, and works of reference that engage in the broadly defined topic of art markets and collecting practices throughout history.
Ever since the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the influence of Plutarch, the great writer of Chaeronea, has been enormous. From Montaigne and Shakespeare to S. Zweig and J.K. Rowling, Plutarch has helped to shape modern Western thought and culture. Besides being an influential figure for intellectual and literary trends, Plutarch has also been fundamental in the transmission of ancient lore to medieval, Renaissance and modern Europe. Indeed, Plutarch is still a key figure for our understanding of the first centuries of the Common Era: his social provenance, education, rich political career and social life make him a first-rate witness to the cultural life of late antiquity.
The past two decades have witnessed an upsurge in scholarship on Plutarch. Classicists, archaeologists, historians, philosophers and theologians alike have shown a renewed interest in this intriguing figure and his works, particularly for the light they might shed on ancient culture. In point of fact, both his
Lives and his
Moralia are inexhaustible sources of information about numerous aspects of the ancient world and its wisdom, helping scholars as they attempt to reconstruct the past. This is as true for religion, philosophy, literature, politics, and science (botanic, zoology, astronomy, or mathematics), as it is for pseudo-sciences such as divination, astrology, or numerology.
Brill’s Plutarch Studies is a response to this renewed scholarly interest in the encyclopedic writer of Chaeronea. In addition to monographs and edited volumes, the series includes updated [English] translations of and commentaries on both
Moralia. As such, it intends both to bring together the most significant Plutarch scholarship of recent years, as well as to provide a forum in which new approaches might be discussed.

Répertoire, the catalogues are arranged in strict chronological order and provide meticulous details of auctions, as well as recording annotations written in the catalogues. Lugt also indicates the library where the catalogue may be consulted. The online edition of Lugt’s work for the period 1600-1900 is the “entrance gate” to

Volume I Jesus research is a difficult task because of the number of primary source materials and their complexities. These complexities involve problems that arise from imperfect preservation of sources, uncertain literary relationships among the documents themselves, and even less certain knowledge of their respective provenances. Jesus research inevitably involves reaching behind the extant sources, inferring from what lies before us the nature of the material upon which the evangelists drew. This volume reviews the criteria, assumptions, and methods involved in critical Jesus research. Its purpose is to clarify the procedures necessary to distinguish tradition that stems from Jesus from tradition and interpretation that stem from later tradents and evangelists, and to inquire into the various forces and situations that led to the emergence of the tradition as we have it.
Volume II In this companion volume to
Authenticating the Words of Jesus, the authors examine the important issue of the original setting and context in which the words of Jesus were spoken. They proceed on the assumption that authenticating the activities of Jesus is just as important as authenticating his words. A historical framework, made up of several fairly certain facts, must be clarified and used as a primary criterion for determining which sayings and episodes ought to be considered the stronger candidates of authentic tradition and how they should be interpreted. Many of Jesus’ sayings cohere with historical elements and oftentimes either explain them or are explained by them. A complete study of the words of Jesus must also include a study of the activities of Jesus.
