Subject Highlights

This chapter explores the hermeneutics that characterize the use of the Virgilian and biblical texts in the first part of the main narrative that treats the Old-Testament narrative. It demonstrates the ways in which the Cento deviates from the biblical narrative in order to create a sense of cohesion between the pagan and Christian traditions. An important feature that is discussed is the use of foreshadowing at a hypo- and hypertextual level, and the textual patterns that establishes various forms of typologies.
